Your Questions Answered
How long does shipping take?
expand_more
We ship between 1 and 3 business days, though some orders are shipped on the same day depending on when the order was placed. We use Royal Mail 48 Tracked, which means that after an order is received by Royal Mail, it should reach your home within 48 hours. Please note that during busier periods of the year, these delivery times may differ slightly.
I have a missing or incorrect candle in my package. What should I do?
expand_more
While we strive for 100% accuracy, we are human and mistakes can occasionally happen! If you find a candle is missing or you’ve received the wrong one, please contact us at info@waxandwords.co.uk with your order number and a photo of the items that arrived. We will prioritise getting the correct items sent out to you immediately.
Are your candles vegan-friendly and cruelty-free?
expand_more
Yes. Our candles are crafted using plant-based coconut wax, which is sustainable, biodegradable, and vegan-friendly. We also ensure that none of our ingredients, including our fragrance oils, are ever tested on animals.
What happens if my candle stats to "tunnel"?
expand_more
Tunneling occurs when a candle burns down the centre, leaving a ring of hard, unmelted wax around the edges. This usually happens if the candle isn't allowed to burn long enough during its first lighting to reach the edge of the jar.
PRO TIP: you can wrap aluminium foil around the top of the jar (leaving a hole for the flame). This reflects heat back onto the outer wax to help it melt and level out. To prevent it in the future, always ensure the entire top surface is liquid before blowing out your candle.
Why is the wick "mushrooming" ?
expand_more
A "mushroom" is a carbon buildup that occurs at the tip of the wick after a long burn. This happens when the wick consumes wax faster than it can burn it off, or if the candle has been lit for longer than 4 hours.
To fix this, simply trim the wick to about 5mm before each light. This ensures a cleaner, safer flame and prevents any black soot from marking your jar.
Can I use these candles around pets?
expand_more
While our candles are made from natural coconut wax, pets have much more sensitive noses than we do. Always ensure the room is well-ventilated and never leave a burning candle unattended around curious paws.
We recommend observing your pet for any signs of discomfort when trying a new scent, and keeping the candle on a stable surface out of their reach to avoid any accidents.
Is it normal to see some sinkholes in the wax?
expand_more
Yes, absolutely! Small sinkholes or craters are perfectly normal with natural waxes like coconut or soy. This happens because the wax shrinks slightly as it cools and solidifies, sometimes creating small air pockets or dips on the surface.
This is purely a visual characteristic and is actually proof that no chemical stabilisers or paraffin have been added to the wax. It will not affect the burn time, safety, or the quality of the fragrance in any way.
