Sweet Bean Paste

Sweet Bean Paste

by Durian Sukegawa (2013)

Sentaro runs a small dorayaki stall beneath the cherry trees, selling pancakes filled with factory-made bean paste and carrying a lot of quiet regret. When an elderly woman asks for a job, her slow, attentive way of cooking red beans begins to change everyone who stops at the counter.

The Nakano Thrift Shop

The Nakano Thrift Shop

by Hiromi Kawakami (2005)

In a cluttered second-hand shop in a Tokyo suburb, a young woman named Hitomi works alongside the eccentric Mr Nakano, his artist sister and a taciturn delivery man. Among chipped teacups and forgotten objects, small attachments form, quietly and awkwardly, over one unhurried year.

The Lake

The Lake

by Banana Yoshimoto (2005)

Chihiro, a young muralist drifting through life in Tokyo, keeps noticing the quiet, unusual student who lives across the street. A slow, tender bond grows between them, along with a sense that he is carrying something he can’t yet put into words.

help Fragrances

Hinoki: The pale, fragrant wood of Japanese temple halls and hinoki bathtubs, bringing a soft, slightly woody calm that settles the whole room.

Juniper: Kept low in the blend, it lends a quiet woody depth beneath the powder, like a garden path swept clean at dawn.

Temple Incense: A delicate, incense-soft haze, gentle as a shrine at dusk, giving the blend its meditative, reflective stillness.

White Musk: Soft and powdery, this is the veil that ties everything together, as hushed as an empty tatami room.

chat_error I have a missing or incorrect wax melt in my package. What should I do?
expand_more

While we strive for 100% accuracy, we are human and mistakes can occasionally happen! If you find a scent is missing or you’ve received the wrong bar, please contact us at info@waxandwords.co.uk with your order number and a photo of the items that arrived. We will prioritise getting the correct melts sent out to you immediately.

local_florist Are your wax melts vegan-friendly and cruelty-free?
expand_more

Yes. Our wax melts are crafted using plant-based coconut wax, which is sustainable, biodegradable, and vegan-friendly. We also ensure that none of our ingredients, including our fragrance oils, are ever tested on animals.

mop How do I remove the old wax from my burner?
expand_more

The cleanest way to swap scents is to wait until the wax has completely cooled and hardened. Light your tealight (or turn on your electric warmer) for about 30 seconds - just long enough to loosen the base. The solid disc should slide out easily. Simply wipe the well with a paper towel to remove any remaining residue before adding a new scent.

PRO TIP: Use wax melt liners or silicone trays. This is the easiest way: once the melt is solidified inside the liner or tray, simply pop it out and discard. You can even use the old wax as a fire starter for your fireplace or fire pit!

emergency_heat Why is there "smoke" coming from my wax?
expand_more

In most cases, this is not smoke but fragrance vapour. When the oil is heated, it evaporates to release the aroma into the room. If the vapour is white and wispy, it is perfectly normal. However, if you see dark smoke, it may be a sign that your tealight is too large or the burner is getting too hot.

pets Can I use these melts around pets?
expand_more

While our wax melts are safe for general home use, it is important to ensure the room is well-ventilated. Some pets can be sensitive to certain strong fragrances or specific essential oils. We recommend keeping burners out of reach of curious paws and observing your pet for any signs of discomfort when trying a new scent.

healing Why is the bottom of a wax melt cube uneven?
expand_more

An uneven or slightly bumpy base is actually proof that we use natural coconut wax. These "imperfections" are purely aesthetic and occur due to micro-variations in temperature while the wax is cooling, during storage, or even whilst being shipped to your home. It has absolutely no impact on the quality or the incredible scent throw of the melt.

balance Why do some cubes have a slight difference in weight?
expand_more

Each cube is hand-poured, so slight variations in wax weight are completely normal. The important part is the fragrance oil, which is measured using 0.001g precision scales and is always exactly the same. A tiny difference in wax has no impact on scent throw.
